Manga Book Club Meeting, 7/11/2009

The Manga Book Club will have its next meeting on Saturday, July 11, from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Mesquite North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Dr.

Oh, I am looking forward to this meeting--we are going to start our new anime series "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood"! Woo-hoo! This is a series not yet available on DVD--it's still airing on Japanese TV--so we'll be streaming it (legally) from the Funimation website. Since it is so new, it has not yet been dubbed, so we'll be watching it in Japanese with English subtitles.

Manga Book Club meeting 6/13/09

The Manga Book Club will have its next meeting on Saturday, May 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Mesquite North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Dr. We've got a few more episodes of our current series, and then we will start our new one. I'm very excited to announce that we have gotten permission from Funimation to show the new Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood which is currently only available online. We'll be watching the streaming anime either from the Funimation website or on Hulu (because we're aliens!) That will start at our July 11 meeting.

Until then, we'll be watching the last few episodes of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Summer Teen Cafe

This summer there is a new set of programs just for teens called "Summer Teen Cafe." These programs are strictly for teens aged 12 to 18. There will be refreshments at all the programs. Please see our website for more details at http://www.cityofmesquite.com/library/adult.php
and scroll down to see a list of the programs we will have. They will take place on Wednesdays this summer from 3-5pm at the Main Library at 300 W. Grubb Dr. You can also call the library for more information at 972-216-6220.

On Thursday, June 25th at 5:30 p.m. the program will be "All Things Japanese." We will show some anime, as we usually do during our Teen Anime Club, and there will be some treats and free wooden chopsticks.

Manga Book Club meeting, May 16

The Manga Book Club will have its next meeting on Saturday, May 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Mesquite North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Dr. We started a new anime series, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. This is a very short series, so we need to go ahead and start thinking about the next series to watch. Fullmetal Alchemist and Eureka 7 have both been suggested.

A little while ago, I started a blog on the Dallas Morning News' Neighborsgo website. I'm posting short reviews of manga volumes as I read them. I'd love to have some help. Write a review of something you're reading, and bring it to the next meeting.

Manga Book Club meeting, May 2

The Manga Book Club will have its next meeting on Saturday, May 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Mesquite North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Dr. We started a new anime series, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. What a change of pace this is from Blood +! The first episode was made as if it was an amateur movie made by a high school club. It took a while to catch on (for me at least) but it was hilarious. The funniest part of the show is the narration.

BTW, this is the last disc of Blood + left, so we need to start thinking of what we want to watch next. This disc will last us for 2 meetings, so we'll start the new series the first meeting in May. Put your thinking caps on!
